  1. We’re Japanese Linguistic Validation Specialists

Y’s Translation, LLC provides cognitive debriefing, participant recruitment, clinician review coordination, and linguistic validation support for clinical research projects in Japan.

We have supported linguistic validations including cognitive debriefing since 2010. Each year, we recruit and coordinate approximately 100 to 200 participants and prepare approximately 30 to 50 cognitive debriefing and clinician review reports.

Our aim is to ensure that Japanese translations are accurate, natural, culturally appropriate, and clearly understood by the intended population.

Why Choose Y’s Translation
  • Supporting linguistic validation projects in Japan since 2010
  • Approximately 100–200 participants recruited and coordinated annually
  • Approximately 30–50 cognitive debriefing and clinician review reports prepared annually
  • A participant-centered approach based on clear explanation and careful coordination
Why Choose Y’s Translation

We conduct cognitive debriefing interviews with Japanese participants to assess whether translated questionnaires and patient-facing materials are understood as intended.

Our support may include:

  • Review of interview materials
  • Participant scheduling and coordination
  • Interviews conducted in Japanese
  • Evaluation of participants’ understanding
  • Preparation of English-language reports
  • Review and refinement of Japanese wording
  • Responses to follow-up questions from project managers

We work with patient associations, patient communities, and trusted networks throughout Japan.

Rather than relying mainly on public recruitment through our website, we prioritize reliable referral channels and clear explanations to prospective participants.

Our support may include eligibility screening, participant communication, interview scheduling, and honorarium coordination.

We have established a network of experienced Japanese physicians, including specialists at major university hospitals and other leading medical institutions.

This enables us to identify clinicians with substantial experience in both common and rare diseases, including specialists who regularly treat rare disease patients.

We also facilitate communication between Japanese clinicians and overseas project managers, helping ensure that medical feedback is conveyed accurately and efficiently.

Our experience in cognitive debriefing gives us practical insight into how Japanese patients understand translated Clinical Outcome Assessments and patient-facing materials.

We can support:

  • Forward translation review
  • Reconciliation
  • Back-translation review
  • Harmonization
  • Proofreading
  • Screenshot and electronic COA review
  • Client query resolution
  • Post-cognitive-debriefing revisions

Our focus is on conceptual accuracy, natural Japanese, and cultural appropriateness.

Representative therapeutic areas include:

  • Gastroenterology (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis)
  • Neurology (Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease)
  • Rheumatology (Rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus)
  • Oncology and hematology
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Endocrine and metabolic diseases

Additional therapeutic areas may be supported depending on project requirements.

We believe that linguistic validation is more than translation.

By combining linguistic expertise, participant coordination, clinician networks, and clear communication, we help international project teams develop Japanese materials that are both accurate and meaningful.
